CNY_Dave
I want to see what failed in my 4EAT front diff, what has to be done beyond just taking off the bolts that holds the bellhousing to the trans proper?
NorthWet
A QUICK look at the FSM indicates that you just need to remove the input shaft, remve the case bolts, and then tap the case sections apart using a soft mallet on the starter mount. ShawnW
You have to take the tailhousing off and the big nut for the input shaft back there. A few distinct models require you to remove the valve body to do that but I have only seen a couple out of 3-400 I have taken apart.

Gloyale
To get the bell off, all you need to do is unbolt it, and the dipstick tube. The seal tube likes to stick, so it takes some prying to get it off ussually You only need to take off the tailsection if you are trying to remove the pump, which requires removing the pinion shaft. But to just take a look inside the front diff, just take it off.
