RichardL
I have recently bought an 02 Legacy (2 litre) with 68,000 miles. There is a nasty vibration that starts at about 2500rpm and stops at approx 3000rpm. More obvious from outside than when driving. Present whether clutch is in or out and also when stationery. I would say that it is something loose but hard to pin it down to an exact location in the engine bay. I'd appreciate any thoughts?
1 Lucky Texan
is this a buzzing noise, something you feel in the seat-of-your-pants or something felt in the steering wheel?
RichardL
Yep a fairly loud buzzing noise - like something loose vibrating! Not through the wheel and appears at 2500 rpm whether you're driving or stationery!
1 Lucky Texan
most likely heat shields on the exhaust, many people put hose clamps around them to quiet them down. you or someone will need to get under the car to inspect them.
nipper
Heat shields are loose. A large hose clamp will fix it for a year, then just another hose clamp.
AWDfreak
Heat shields are loose. A large hose clamp will fix it for a year, then just another hose clamp. What these two said... It just might be the exhaust heat shields. Your description sounds like the same vibration I've experienced on my old 1999 Outback (BG6)
mikaleda
Yep I have that exact problem with my legacy heat shields. I just left them like they were helps save on gas it makes you not want to rev it past 2500 rpm for a sustained amount of time
