Sandrion
Still can't figure out why, but the soob is bogging even worse on me now. I was cruising down the highway and it started bucking and surging on me. It would run, then bog, run bog, run, bog, pretty evenly spaced, barely got the thing home as it got worse going up hills. What does this sound like to you guys? Im pretty good at troubleshooting so give me anything you got, what is it they say, any port in a storm? Im sort of needing the soob to run correctly for me because last night I hit a deer in my truck, nothing terrible, just some cosmetic stuff (new grill, left headlight and bezel, and that about it.) 1 Lucky Texan
more details would be helpful about the car, it's general condition, had it been running good prior to this, any work done before, any check engine or other warning lights on, etc.
naru
Fuel filter and/or pump. Try a new filter first.
Sandrion
It has been running fine since i.bought it up until a few days ago, since then the bogging has gotten particularly worse as time has gone on. It is a 1993 loyale sedan, 1.8l SPFI fwd three speed. I have replaced the filter, it didnt help. As for the bogging, it started out just when i would go around a curve it would sputter and then clear up, no problem, now it has gotten to where if i stop, and start off again, it all but dies. And actually has once or twice... i mash the gas, a little or a lot, and it picks up, dies, picks up, dies. Its almost like i was shutting off the gas flow each time to the injector. I have not had any check lights come on, and my fuses and fusible links are good. The fuel pump sounds like it is struggling, but when you spend $675 on a car, $200 for a pump is a bit steep. Could it be some kind of valve, sensor, sending unit or otherwise? I have checked all the hoses, they are all in great shape, no cracks. markjw
Maybe connect the white diagnostic plugs together and turn on the ignition. Watch the red blinking light on the ecu see if there are actually no trouble codes stored. Its as good a place as any to start.
rdweninger
If the tach is 'jumping' around, could be the disty. Check all plug wires and coil. Sounds more likely to be TPS. Try cleaning the electrical contacts. Check voltage coming out of TPS. Should start around .5 v and climb to approx 5v at WOT. If you don't have a multimeter... buy a good one for $12. (OHMS, DC volts, AC volts) Otherwise, you will be guessing ALOT... and never KNOWING.
Sandrion
Not to sound dumb, but I am ignorant as to what TPS is. I might know if it wasn't in acronym form. And it isnt really jumping, more... just sticking in place, it sometimes doesnt want to go up as the revs do, other times it doesn't want to come down. I can smack the top of the dash and it will move in whatever direction it is supposed to, according on what the revs are doing.
Sandrion
I have found out that I have trash in my fuel tank, and it is clogging the screen in my fuel pump up, causing my engine to bog, as mentioned above. I am dropping the tank this weekend and cleaning it out, will report back with results.
