snofool
What else can break when the timing belts go on these? Are they an interference motor? I have found a good enough one but it died and the owner thinks its the timing but has no money to fix it. It's a 88 gl 5spd spfi. I was thinking of limping it to a garage and swapping it with a 2.2 for some power. But I can't tow it. so the owner seems to think it should fire right up after a year if I can fix the timing belt. Any help would be great! thanks
Cougar
The engine is a non-interference type. A new belt should get you going.

ford'ssubaru's
Yerp agreed! Be carefull when reading the manual. It is a bit confusing. Goto to the tech side and the procedure has been explained in depth by a leader here. He even used pictures! Had to use it muself!..LOL.
SubieTrav
When the belt broke on the 88 GL I used to own, it was the reslut of a seized pully. At least it was on the right side. I was still able to drive the 15 miles home only able to go about 25 mph.
farfromiowa
Easy to change, I had never done it and it only took me about 5 hours. I had a haynes manual to point me in the right direction. Mine was not broke, changed it for peace of mind. It was fun actually.
