JuhaKankkunen
I'm sorry if there is a post about this, I'm new here.... Which oil does you use for EA81? Does anyone try Castrol RX Viscus 25w60 on EA81? My engine is almost 200000 km and smoking some oil. Thanks
Loyale 2.7 Turbo
I Believe that SAE 25W~ 60 is way more heavy than needed for that engine, Despite its mileage. Lacyjs9
if its smoking it could be rings or a bad valve seals try using some lucas oil
mikaleda
I run 10w-40 in my cars, smoking is usually because of a bad p.c.v valve. P.c.v valves are cheap and easy to replace and I've seen subies with 300k plus that don't smoke.
JuhaKankkunen
Thanks for the writeup! And thanks Mikaleda too! i have a new PCV valve, i will change it tomorrow. Can you tell me what the valve do? Thanks!
mikaleda
P.c.v valve is a Positive Crankcase Ventilation valve and its just basically a one way valve and if it gets stuck open it sucks oil into the intake and burns it. Rings rarely fail on these subarus unless its been badly abused.
NorthWet
+1 on the PCV valve/system. Something else to check (along with the PCV valve) is where the PCV hoses attach to the valve covers: The metal tube on the cover tends to accrete crud, narrowing the opening. This can cause oil to pump up into the PCV hose and get sucked into the engine.
