junk250
I hate to ask again, but I'm not clear on what swaps. I have googled to no end and still cant find any info on what transmissions/bell housings will swap between a(Gen-1) 1979 EA_71 automatic to a 5 speed manual. Can I use a later EA-81 (side mount starter)bell housing on an ea-71 with top mount starter and corresponding later 5 speed manual front drive ? The only sure fit seems to be 1978-79 5 speed manual, but I suspect later 5 speeds might fit with a later side mount starter bell housing. My EA-71 has the top mount starter ? thanks ! Leeroy
No you cannot use a EA81 bell housing, it will not fit. You can use a 'fat case' EA71 bell housing with your current engine. This will allow you to fit a transmission with a side mount starter.
