bratman18
It's been a long time since I've taken a cv axles apart, so I want to make sure I do it right so I can reuse parts. I am doing a 5 lug swap on my 90 Loyale. I have XT6 front axles. I need to remove the inner joint, and put the inner joint from my Loyale onto the XT6 shaft to make it work with my stock Loyale tranny. So what is the correct procedure on removing that inner joint from the shaft? I did search but found nothing that helped. If someone had a step by step procedure that would be awesome. Pictures would be even better! Lol. Thank you in advance!
mb4lunch
Get the boot off or pull it back towards the center of the axle. Now...just a couple of mm inside the lip of the big metal housing (cv-joint) there is a wire clip/ spring clip all the way around the inside (Hidden by grease.) Just use a tiny screwdriver to pop it out. It comes out real easy. Then you can slide the inner bearings away and out. If you need the inner bearing guide/ race to come off there is a circlip on the end of the axle/ splined part. You will need circlip pliers. Remove it and the bearings slide right off. Pay attention to which side of the bearing race was facing out.... Sorry, no pics. Hope this helps.

bratman18
Thanks guys. And from what I've read, that's what I need to do to make the 5 lug swap work. XT6 and Loyale were both pretty much EA82, aside from the 5 lug, which is a conglomeration of EA82 and early EJ.
