JEBalles
So, doing my timing belts today and found my crank pulley with a good four or so inches of the belt guard gone. It must have been that way for a while since the wear path from the belt was different and clearly defined. I've never noticed anything wrong and the belts don't look too bad. What do you guys think? ford'ssubaru's
Yes, It has been that way for awhile. That was most likely done on a previoius repair by someone prying on the pulley. If I were a bettin man I would say that someone previous to you put a chain wrench around it to get the crankbolt off. You can see that somene has had that bolt out before. Go to the wrecking yard, get another one and slap it on there and call it good. Don't put that one back on. Just my advice though. jj421
My old motor had a crack identical to that on the crank pulley. Like you said, I noticed no problems with the belts or anything. I ran for about 8000 miles, at least. I'm sure the crack was there long before the previous owner sold the car to me. Try and get a new pulley, but if it's not possible anytime soon, you'll probably be fine.
Prwa101
It's fine, I've seen worse. My fiancés car has had a crack like that prolly the entire time I've been working on it so prolly 4 years. Get one when you can,
JEBalles
Just to clarify, this is not a crack, but a large piece missing. Not sure if that changes anything.

idosubaru
replace it, but it's not a big deal if you need to leave it, i've seen a ton with chunks missing. i've left them in my xt6's for very long periods of time, no big deal.
JEBalles
Yeah, I might call up the local yard soon to see if they have any old subies, but I'm due for inspection in June and I probably need to replace a ball joint since I just noticed it's pretty loose, and I'm headed to CT next friday for work, so definitely in a pinch. I figured I'd ask around here to see if anyone had one lying around or something, but it would be much appreciated if one of you guys could grab one if it's convenient.
