Gen 1 Legacy Sedan - 215/45/R17 on factory WRX mags rubbing on strut tower

Recommended Posts

I've recently gotten my hands of a set of five spoke WRX mags with 215/45R17 rubber and put them on my first gen 90 EJ22 Legacy sedan. The back ones rub on the strut towers right under the spring, have burnt a flat spot on the tyre wall and taken the paint off the strut tower.

Has anyone had this problem before, and what did you do to solve it? I've taken them off now as I figure it's probably not the best situation to have smoke pouring out of your wheel wells at 35MPH down the street.

It's only a couple of MM difference but I'd rather be safe, but would like to get them on at some stage, as they just look so good!

You could use outback struts to raise the spring seat, but that gives you a lift which for some reason I think you're not looking for. You could also cut the spring seat down and run coilover adjustable sleeves with narrow diameter springs.

Or you could run thin wheel spacers assuming you have enough wheel stud length left for full thread engagement on the wheel studs.
