jmoss5723
2004 Forester XS. 100% Stock. Just had the refrigerant refilled. Like the title says, the A/C always starts out cold, but becomes hot after a few minutes. If I turn the A/C off for an extended period of time (hour or so?) it will come on cold again. It has been like this since I bought the car in May of 2012 and I never cared. I always put the windows down anyway, but my pregnant sweating wife is having NONE of that. Please help before she kills me!
Rooster2
I think your system is low on refrigerant.
crazyman03
who refilled it? if you refilled it yourself, did you have the a/c going and the clutch was enabled before you ran the can? the gauge will read a false reading if you just put it on the fitting and open the can up without the clutch running. -Justin
ferret
You may have a worn compressor clutch. idosubaru
probably low and you probably have a leaky oring. $5 fix, very easy. you can buy the cheapie ghetto gauges for a few bucks at an autoparts store to measure the current pressure to see if it's low. if it's low then and was charged properly/working before then you simply need to replace the two orings on the compressor ($5 and 15 minutes): http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/127980-diy-ac-air-conditioning-leak-refrigerant-repair-for-5-or-less15-m/
jmoss5723
I had it filled at the dealership when I took it in for unrelated service. It blows Ice cold for 10 minutes, then gets hot. So I don't think it is low on refrigerant. If it were, it would just be warm all of the time. A bad clutch sounds like it could be the problem.
