Mugs
Anyone have experience with this type of LSD. I am thinking about putting it in my 2000 Outback Sport auto..4.11 rear diff. I think the Forester has the same ratio. Seems like a good option as sourcing a LSD is getting pretty hard these days. Or will it even work? Uberoo
It works about the same as putting extra washers or grinding disks behind the spiders to "lock" the diff.It marginal at best until the metal slurry it creates locks the diff up for real. monstaru
Not worth it Doug. They do not have a good track record. Just get a VLSD. They work really well for what they are. cheers

Mugs
Thanks for all the input guys. Its much appreciated. One of these days I might fork over the big bucks and buy a LSD center diff. But that won't be for a while. I want to do the 2.5 swap and get this guy off the ground a bit more first.
WoodsWagon
The vlsd rears are pretty common in the junkyards now. Lots of the 2nd gen Legacy Outbacks came with them. 4.11's in the 5spd's, 4.44's in the a/t's. Look for heated mirrors, if it has them it has the winter package which came with the vlsd. If you want to spend big bucks, a 4.44 front ring and pinion plus an obx helical front diff with a vlsd 4.44 out of an auto trans outback would be a pretty good setup. Most of your traction is on the front wheels, so that's where the lsd makes the biggest difference.

Gonna do a few other mods to it first. I'm pretty sure I have the 4.11 diff..Its a 2000 Outback Sport (Impreza) with the 4EAT and the EJ22, which to the best of my knowledge and reading is the 4.11..the EJ25 OBW (and other cars) came with 4.44...then again I could be heinously wrong. I guess it is time to go count drive line revolutions per 5 tire turns. Edited July 30, 2013 by Mugs
WoodsWagon
A diff from the junkyard shouldn't be more than $150 and a stock late model vlsd will work a lot better than the phantom grip. The phantom grips are bad news, they work by wedging the side gears into the case until the oil squishes out and it's grinding metal on metal. That's the limited slip action. Mugs
Ya I got a Vlsd from a forum member here. Its out of a 2000 RS. Should be here by the end of the week. I'm super stocked about it.
