May be a dumb question .. Two stereos better then one?

Recommended Posts

Remember be nice to me,  I freely admit at times I am useless when it comes to electronics beyond basics  and boards.

Today I have been busy, as I did this

Which was not as hard as I thought it would be for the most part. My ponderance concerns the stereo. The aftermarket stereo (JVC bluetooth music/calling/ipod controller/bells/whistles) is going to a 600 watt 4 channel amp. I am connecting to the power amp by the RCA jacks on the back of the JVC unit to the RCA jacks on the amp.The factory stereo I upgraded to a 2009 HU for playing MP3 discs. It actually is a sweet unit, 6 discs, sounds good. Now why can't I take the speakers out from the from the HU and tap into the speaker inputs for the amp so I can still play MP3 discs. I want my cake and to be able to eat it too.

As of now the HU is powered but all the speaker wires have been cut to go to the amp. The antenna is going to JCV unit, and tha antenna amp is still on the HU until I get the antenna adapter.

Good lord, what kind of monster have you created?!? :)

Is the JVC unit wired to the remote turn on for the amp? Maybe the amp only supports high or low level input not both, have you tried keeping the amp on and pulling the low-level rca's?

Actually in person it doesnt look as horrific as it does in photos.

The JVC will be wired to turn on the amp for now, I just did the install and the speaker wiring, and running of wires, then I ran out of light.

So what your saying is to go ahead and wire the HU into the amp, power the amp,  pull the RCA's and see what happens?

Ugh, what I'm saying is; I can't read. Thought you already tried and it didn't work, oops!

I don't see any reason why your proposal wouldn't work. As long as the JVC is on (to turn the amp on), the amp should accept signals from both JVC and HU - at the same time too, fun!

I was previously thinking that the amp was prioritizing inputs (low level rca's first), guess we'll soon find out. You can try playing Dark Side and Wizard of Oz (audio only, boo) at the same time!

You need one of these:

How well it will play with the other HU I'm not sure. I would think you could just Y the two together right before the amp, just make sure both aren't trying to play at the same time.

<== electronically challenged  i see lots of "one of these" but not sure which one of these are or which one of one of theses are being recommended

What amp are you using? I kinda read into your post the the amp has 2 input connections, 1- rca in's (aka low level), and 1- speaker level input from the OE HU (aka high level, usually 4 pins, Left+/Left-, Right+/Right-).

Well the question is moot now. The Power Amp only had RCA inputs, I guess I was thinking of Blu's amp which had both.

Thanks though. It is allwired in and working, except for the AM/FM . Waiting on a antenna adapter.

Yup, only RCA's, that sucks. BUT - I glanced at Fairtax's link real quick - they are converters to make high level (your HU output) into low level RCA outs. Then, as he said, you could put a Y and have both RCA's now go into the amp...
