AustRabel
I have a 1990 loyale wagon and I have put on a cherry bomb muffler. It sounds really nice but I would like it just a little louder. I have seen videos with guys with my same car and muffler, put took off the cats. It sounds super mean but I still would like to pass emissions
john in KY
I doubt it because I think when you have the emission test done the inspectors look to see if the emission stuff is actually on the car or not.
AustRabel
Well I was planning on removing one and gutting the other
MilesFox
You can install the cherry bomb immediately after the 2nd cat on the mid pipe and ditch the muffler with a straight pipe.
idosubaru
if a car passed emissions without a catalytic converter then wouldn't every car would pass an emissions test?
scoobiedubie
It will pass without the 2nd catalytic converter.
spazomatic
If the shell of the cat is still on there it'll pass the visual. Whether it'll pass the tailpipe test or not, I dont know. 2 years ago, my EA81 passed with a weber and no cat, but it took 5 tries and finally passed by a very narrow margin. After it passed, i retuned the weber so that it ran better. This year, I need to pass emissions again...so Im searching for an intact cat. My opinion...keep a cat on it. I felt no increase in performance by removing mine, and its more trouble than its worth to try and pass without it.
idosubaru
right, the preconverter won't matter since it'll be tested when it's warmed up anyway. spazomatic has a good point - having removed catalytic converters on XT6's and run gutted converters, i never noticed a difference in sound or performance either. i did notice a difference with larger cat back pipe and straight through mufflers, mostly in better highway mpg's and of course it sounded different. BoxerRebellion
Pick up a universal high-flow cat. They don't cost that much. Your rig'll be louder. You won't feel bad.

notliving
You won't really know until you try it. Do they do a visual in Marysville? In Vancouver they don't check anything, as long as you have some sort of exhaust that they can get the sniffer in you're good to go.
AustRabel
I'm not sure, I like the high flow cat idea, I need all my pipes mover over anyway. The guy before me dropped the driveline a little so my pipes hang pretty low
notliving
Isn't this the last year you'll have to go through emissions anyways? Maybe its one more year?
