brake caliper bracket problem after wheel bearing / ball joint

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

Replaced my drivers side wheel bearings, cv axle and ball joint this week on my '86 Brat.

Everything went well until I started putting everything back together....

The bracket, which attaches to the steering knuckle, rubs on the brake rotor, as seen in the picture below.

All bolts are tightened and in place and I'm 100% sure the caliper bracket is not bent.

Here's a picture of where it's rubbing:

I'm a little bit worried I actually messed up / bent the knuckle, while I was using a hydraulic press to get the wheel bearings out of it.

It took me putting far too much pressure (10 tons) on the wheel bearings from one side to realize that there's a casting ridge in the middle of the knuckle and that the bearings needed to be pushed out from the center. After that was realized, they came out and went back in fine.

But is it possible that I've bent the ears on the knuckle from too much pressure and that's why the caliper bracket is not fitting correctly?

Any hints, tips....etc. would be greatly helpful

eep!
