BlueSoob
Since we seem to have a variety of people on the USMB, I figured Someone Must Know about this mysterious new "Stop Leak" that Subaru is fixing their head gasket problems with. I've spoken with a few people about this and I have received bits and pieces of information. The dealership that I took my 03 Forester to when I had the HG had to call the Tech Line and get permission to use this new "coolant conditioner" in my car. I later spoke to someone who had spoken to one of the service people there and they said that it was something that the dealerships get very few of... these little tubes of this conditioner. It is not something that they can sell... only add at the dealership. Scratching my head a little, I called one of my most trusted repair shops and one of the techs there told me that its been a very recent thing... within the last 2 months or so that this has been available. So far so good- but its still too early to tell. (~Since my HG went 1 month ago, there has been no signs of coolant leaks... but for some reason, my oil is coming out dirtier and I am loosing it faster??? but thats another topic) And now when they flush the coolant, they put this stuff in with it. A friend of mine reminded me about this mysterious stuff yesterday only noting that tubes of this stuff were few and far between... My Question: Has anyone else had an experience with this stuff or does anyone know anything about this???
Turbone
Hmm, never heard of it yet. But its been known for a long time by only a few people that you can use Sodium Silicate to seal HG leaks. You can get it a good Pharmacy, or look around on-line for chemistry stuff. I wonder if this is what they are using?
cookie
it's just stop leak. The new 2.5 head gaskets fail externally with a weeping usually. This should fix the weeping of coolant. It's no use for the early 2.5s that fail internally.
richierich
I called the local dealership and had them send me some for my customer that have vehicles with over 100k miles on them. It only cost me $1.50 per bottle. They didn't make it seem like it was some mysterious item that was kept under lock and key. Recommend that my customer have the dealer install it the first time but after that, I will keep it on hand for services. They say it needs to be added any time the antifreeze is changed so it is going to be a stock item.
theotherskip
i have heard a few reports of blocked radiators and heater cores after the conditioner was added... those haven't been covered by the extended warranty.
