Phizinza
How do you remove the cap in the back of the head covering up the cam?
idosubaru
if it's stuck then twist it a couple or bunch of times first. may even take a couple nudges on the bolt hole ears with light hammer taps to get it going. go back and forth a couple times, spray some WD40 or something down there if you have to. it's held in place with two 10 or 12mm bolts. remove those and it comes out. Phizinza
Mine looks different to the bolt in ones. It is a rubber coated plug, twists but won't pull out. It had no bolts holding it in. I'll try and get a photo tomorrow.

Fairtax4me
I hammer a flat head screwdriver through those to pry them out.
Gloyale
Prys out like a seal. Seal puller, gonna mangle it just try not to gouge the aluminum. Order a new cap, and you will see what they look like before removing yours.
Phizinza
Ah right... I'm trying to see if the cam has any way of driving a distributor on the back of it such as ej22's do. Thanks
idosubaru
ah okay - yeah there are 2 different style rear EJ cam caps - the non-bolt on varieties rarely (i've never seen it) need removed and so i thought you meant the other bolt on style. i didn't even know they were removable until this thread, i always assumed they were permanent parts of the block rather than a cap. Phizinza
Here's a photo. I just punched a screw driver through the cap and levered it out. Looks like a disty could be mounted if i slot the cam and make an adapter from those 3 bolts
