Uberoo
eat some top ramin and not drive as much until you can buy some tires at 10-15 each.
RustyBrat
im already doin that i barely get to drive anymore :'( but i do have a job lined up beginning around the end of May, and im in the process of getting a part time job right now. i know of some tires i can get for free, but im just having trouble finding 6 lug rims with enough offset to clear that rear torsion bar
RustyBrat
rigged up a throttle cable today out of my lawn mowers throttle cable drove it for the first time in way too long!
RustyBrat
FINALLY got my exhaust to seal all the way today... fixed a couple leaks on the coolant hoses (replaced those crappy original clamps with hose clamps), and drove her around for an hour or so still not insured, but i just drove around in an empty subdivision near mine (dont have to even get on public roads to get there) didnt stay out too long because i have no idea how much gas is in the tank, gauge is totally unreliable. sorry for the bad quality videos, it takes too long to upload in HD
RustyBrat
So... some of you will be excited to hear... tomorrow im going to go and get a set of wheels! and a buddy of mine is donating some (mostly dead) 235 75 15s for me to run until i can afford better ones! im going to redrill the wheels instead of the hubs. i just PRAY that these rims have enough offset to clear the rear suspension arm. if not... gotta find some 6" aluminum stock and turn some 2" spacers.
RustyBrat
check it out guys! drilled the rims and mounted them, used an old brake drum as a guide had to mount the ones on the rear inside out to clear everything, so i turned the front ones inside out too just so it doesn't look retarded. gotta build some spacers next! didn't lose as much power as i expected it to, i can still break traction on pavement and idle along in first or second without giving it any gas. had to bash in the inner fenders a bit to clear the tires, and im gonna have to do more bashing but i need a bigger sledge hammer first. lots of wander and torque steer, so ball joints and tie rod ends are next on the list. oh and shocks for the rear, im thinking adjustable air shocks so i can haul something without rubbing too bad on the tires. btw got the wagon running, had to wire up the coil like a lawn tractor but it runs. and i have a buyer, heres hoping they dont back out at the last second! oh and just a side note, just hit this mile marker with my Chevy Edited April 6, 2014 by RustyBrat
RustyBrat
check out the beautiful new switches! this weekend im going to get the new switch panel all wired up! although i cant seem to get the ignition assembly detached from the steering column. it is held on by 4 bolts, but 2 of them are round on the top like a carriage bolt? any ideas? also this weekend i plan to finally build the seat frame for the passenger side... yeah, i havent done that yet. OH! and cant forget the good old POR 15 to put in the bed!
BuckarooBanzai
A Little off topic, but how did you black out your front running lights and tail light?

You'll have to file / cut a slot big enough for a flat blade screw driver to be able turn them ... P.S. - You might need one of these too ! Cheers, Bantum ... Bantum
Yep there's always another way ( drilling is usually a last resort effort ) ... The advantage with my method is that you can reuse them if done carefully ... ( It helps also if you give them a good soaking in some lubricant like penitrol, CRC, WD40, etc.) ... Be sure to take some pictures of you efforts Rusty ... Cheers, Bantum ... Edited April 10, 2014 by Bantum
RustyBrat
Well i will not be putting the ignition assembly back on, so i think im just going to use the cut off tool haha Edited April 10, 2014 by RustyBrat
RustyBrat
got it all wired up master power, starter button, fuel pump to the first switch, coil to the second, and radio to the last. the rest will be used for lights and whatnot, one for accessory power. put down one layer of POR15 in the bed, that stuff is GREAT! expensive, but worth it in the end. dries oh so slowly though, so i have to wait till tomorrow to put the second coat down, sorry no pics yet of the POR15. RustyBrat
*drumroll* the final results of the POR15! this stuff is fantastic! only minor complaint i have, is each coat takes 24 hours to dry. but it sure looks nice when its done! and yes, it is completely dry in these pictures, its just THAT glossy! RustyBrat
little birthday present to myself, new shocks! new ball joints and tie rod ends are next, waiting for my aluminum to ship so i can build wheel spacers! shocks were the absolute perfect length at full down travel on the suspension they are at full extension. managed to use the stock mounting locations, just barely touches the bump-stop at full extension. such a better ride all around, less rubbing, less torque-steer, less wander. once i get the ball joints and tie rod ends on, it should be solid and ready to go. Leeroy
So, expect no further updates. Come on RustyBrat, re-read through this thread and it is clear plenty of people have enjoyed what you have done to your Brat. No need to stop because of one person's opinion (I'm just assuming here). I for one, have certainly enjoyed your Brat resurrection!

Just when people are calling for me to be banned its discouraging, but let them hate i guess yeah i could probably do a little more thinking... Tbh though i always have pretty unpopular opinions! BratRod
Meh. Some people... Shawn will take care of it. I'm pretty sure he's seen the posts. The other guy will get a talking to. Don't let other people get to you. And don't feed the trolls: that's what they want. Keep on going. We're going to replace those guys one day...
RustyBrat
thats very true! good advice its partly my fault, i will admit, i just cant seem to let it go... which is weird, because in real life im extremely easygoing. online though... idk its just different! but anyway, FULL STEAM AHEAD ON THE BRAT! started on the spacers today, cut the aluminum with an electric hack saw, took FOREVER and couldn't quite get it to cut perfectly straight, but there is less than 1/16th of a difference, so no big deal, just throw them on the lathe and surface them so they are perfect now just to find someone with a big enough lathe... Scooner
Yo Rusty, i for one enjoy keeping up on your thread and i don't remember seeing anything negative ever but i might be mistaken. I was even thinking of your pickup with that 250,000+ sticker the other day because i've always wanted a 97-98 Chevy pickup extended cab 4x4 and seen one the other day here driving around and thinking of how great those vortec 5.7s were and even the 4L60E...kinda haha. Keep up the good work man and damn the haters...do yo thing.
