PeterD
I leaned how to drive on an my dads 84 subaru gl. sadly it is nearing the end of its life, if i can save it i will. if i plan to keep i want to do a little playing around with the fuel system. is it at all possible to swap volkswagens CIS mechanical fuel injection into a carbed 84 gl. with enough work i think it is possible how about you guys. i may just do it for fun to further my knowledge about cars. Qman
CIS turned up nothing. However, a search for CIS mechanical fuel injection produced this post from Noah. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=2551&highlight=mechanical+fuel+injection
PeterD
thanks guys i did a search and found that same write up...BUT im going to be using the EA81 motor that is in the car. this writup is done on that later ohc engine. with the injectors right in the cylinder head. can anyone varify if it is possible to do on a EA81 motor. or is there a simpler FI system. I have a vw scirocco with the CIS injection and its super simple and ih ave a massive amount of VWs at local junkyards to hord parts from, the only big issue would be setting up the fuel pressure acumulator ( i think thats it ) and the were to put the fuel injectors. One thing you might be able to do is find some EA81T heads.. The EA81T is a multiport injected motor.. so your injector bosses would be less of a problem.. it would however create new problems.. mainly, finding the heads.. archemitis
spfi subarus are all i find in the junkyard anymore, and that will bolt right on to the ea81. the spfi is a great system, that gets awesome gas mileage, and on an ea81 youd break 30 mpg easily. and more hp too.
