1-3-2-4
Has anyone ever had a oil pump fail? For those that put a Ej22 in did you bother to replace the front crank seal? I'm not sure it's possible to get the seal off with out messing it up. Not sure if I want to put a oil pump on that spun the bearings with 256K on it. I ended up just ordering the seal online from the dealer it was $6.38 Edited October 19, 2013 by 1-3-2-
Fairtax4me
They're easy to replace without removing the pump. These pumps are easy to clean and inspect. If you don't have a big vice, be sure to loosen the big hex plugs on the bottom and the one on the front before unbolting it from the engine. Gloyale
Pumps rarely "fail" But it is a good idea to remove it, tighten/reseal the screws that hold the back plate on, and then reseal it. There is no "gasket" for the oil pump. There is an o-ring, and the rest of the perimeter of the pump body gets sealant. I like permatex "The Right Stuff" but other RTV types will do. I've never needed to take out the large hex plugs. Replace the crank seal AFTER you reinstall teh pump. Having the seal in place can make it difficult to get a perfect line up and seal. Too many problems smearing sealant or rolling the lip of the seal. Just drive it in after like any other seal.
1-3-2-4
Back when I did the head gaskets two years ago I took off the oil pump and replaced the little O-ring behind it, I have permatex anaerobic gasket maker. I'm not sure anyone who would want to try to put the seal in before you put the pump on.. that's crazy..
