Cladinshadow
So I have a 95 Legacy wagon 2.2l with a tz102zaaaa 4.11 ratio that doesn't go in reverse. I just moved from a Subaru friendly local in Colorado to Saint Louis MO which doesn't seem to have nearly the love so I had a bit of a time searching around for a used trans that would be compatable, got one from Michigan they assured me was from a 2.2 and when it arrived here it was evident that it was from a 2.5. My trusted mechanic back in Colorado (master tech) tells me I can make it work by just changing out the flex plate with that of a 2.5 as long as the gear ratios are the same but he cannot find any info on the tz102z1aba code from the part I got sent to confirm such for me. Has anyone come across this #? Best I can find is it might have been from a Grandwagon legacy of which I believe was a Japanese model in the early Outback era. Thanks for any help
johnceggleston
tz102z1aba i have never seen this number. and i have been studying trans numbers for over 7 years. this is the number printed on your ''new'' trans? the best advice i can give you is to look at http://opposedforces.com/parts, in europe. as you track down the part number for the auto trans, it will show the trans ID#. i would look in the 95 - 96/7 years. maybe 94. the outback started earlier in JDM, and maybe europe. in the us, 95 - 99, the id# with a number 2 after the second Z were all 4.44. 95 - 99 with a letter after the second Z were all 4.11. but i'm nor sure europe matched this pattern. you can also pull the drain plug on the front diff, and count the teeth on the ring gear. 40 = 4.44 37 = 4.11 (possibly 3.7 but i hve never heard of a 3.7 auto trans ratio in a legacy.) 39 = 3.9 (or 3.54 but his was SVX only, i think) good luck.
