Uberoo
I'm looking for inspiration for my BRAT prject, my design goal is kinda aiming for Mad Max, crossed with various video game vehicles. When I say beat up I don't mean dented and smashed and not a straight panel on them but more subarus that: don't have grills, missing some chrome, primer showing, mismatched body colors, etc. More or less post pics of your historic subarus BEFORE they went to body shop to look nice. For instance this lovely photo from the slammed brat thread caught my eye: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/index.php?app=core&module=attach§ion=attach&attach_rel_module=post&attach_id=10260 So I know that picture is more of a picture of one of the steps of a project my in my minds eye, a lift, some bigger tires, and a 3/4 rump roast bumper on the front would look pretty good at least for my project.Iv'e learned over the course of the years that I am not allowed to have nice things, so maybe if its not much to look at it wont die prematurely. So post up all your pics of historic subarus under construction. *I tried to embed the image but the forum software as late doesn't seem to like me and says I am not allowed to post that image extension. oregoncoast
So according to that photo, you should just visit your local pick and pull and let the inspiration flow....
Rust
Unfortunately the "patina" look only really works on pre-1970 cars particulary virgin metal cars. Older cars have much thicker metal and can handle surface rust/oxidation for many years. The metal on subarus is thinner and recycled metal, the window of "patina" look to full on rust bucket is very short. If your looking for a Walking Dead type theme, I would flat black the car and then splatter the front w/ red paint. Post some pics of what you are working with.
MilesFox
I get the idea, you want a subaru that is ugly enough that no one would cry if oyu took a sawzall to it and some spray paint. Roll-on rustoleum from the can does good for this. The rest will be raw creativity. I support the post apocalyptic idea
Uberoo
one of the vehicles for inspiration is this:
Uberoo
I can't have the mounted machine gun but I like the grill treatment.
Scott in Bellingham
'form follows function', look at the original WW2 Jeep, it was put together to meet a set criteria setup by the war board, looks or style was not part of it, Im against makin something or adding something unless its real and has a function, Myself I wouldnt add stuff for looks, it need to have a purpose behind it, make a list of practical things you want in a vehicle them build around that, if your looking for style or a certain look good luck, that's what Hollywood does , make it real and it will look cool, and the bottomline is it has to preform and not be a Poser
wallaby
and whats not useful about a mounted machine gun......... but seriously.. i agree with Scott to a point - it has to be useful, and look good and it has to be useful to you and your situation and looking good is a matter of opinion.....and it doesen't matter what other people think its your car - do what you want
Uberoo
i never said i was building this to impress other people. Im not gonna go and paint in the "patina" look, and of course form follows function. So I could build a bumper that protects the front end,but I could have it braced to the strut towers, then maybe a side to side brace for that bumper that passes right through the fenders to bolt to the structure of the car..then paint that bumper with whatever paint I happen to have around without a particular paint scheme in mind.
