Rrich681
I bought a nice 98 legacy outback with a bad 25 to but my strong 22 in, I have a good 5 spd but would like to use the auto trans that's in it. I noticed when I got it home that it still rolls when in park, and to get it out of park I have to disengage the shiftlock thru the little hole, I hear the relay click when I push the button on the shifter, but it won't come out of park...what do I do?? lmdew
you have to pull the tail shaft housing to get to the parking lock linkage. It's Mechanical from the shift linkage as far as I know. The shift lock is up in the shift selector in the car. If you pull the plastic cover you may see what is going on. Two different problems. johnceggleston
i think they are 2 separate functions. the shift lock is a solenoid, brake switch solenoid issue. if you remove the cover around the shifter, you can disengage it temporarily. i used a rubber band to hold the lock out of the way. it finally rotted away. next time i'll use something a little more permanent, like thin wire, maybe. the switch on the brake pedal could cause this. or the solenoid it self. my 97 GT is intermittent.
