crowheart
I noticed a noise when I depress the brake pedal in park. It's one audible click and if I put my hand on the shifter console at the same time I can feel one vibration (slight) that corresponds exactly to my braking in park. This only happens in park though. I believe in the past I could hear a very slight click but it's louder now. Is this anything to be concerned about? What could it be? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.... northguy
A little more information - year and make of vehicle, type of transmission (3spd auto/4spd auto?) - would probably help. If it's still shifting fine and the parking pall is still holding, there's probably nothing to worry about, but I am far from an expert on auto trannies. X35 Performance
It is a lockout mechanism so that you can't shift unless you have a foot on the brake. That's how the SVX works, and most other modern cars in general do too.

FillG
X35's right, it keeps you from accidently bumping the shifter out of park. I haven't had an automatic for several years but the ex wife had a 92 Honda Accord with the same lockout thing. Hers was a very noticeable click when you stepped on the brake. It also had a little keyhole beside the shifter that you could stick any key or even a screwdriver into and it would release it without using the brake.
