AdventureSubaru
I am halfway through the trans swap on my 97 Impreza OBS. The donor car was a 99 OBS - same gear ratio and all. But the 99 had a speedometer sensor and the 97 was cable. I removed the sensor from the 99 and it looks similar enough in there. Do I just install the 97 cable into the spot for the 99 sensor. Looks like the tip of the cable can slide into the slot on the 99. Just wanted to be sure before I go ahead with anything.
johnceggleston
on the auto trans, there is a small plug like thing that sits in between the speedo cable and the speedo gear shaft mounted in the front diff. you just pop it out and the speed sensor will thread right on and mate with the speedo gear shaft. the speed sensor is longer and sits deeper in the housing. i would ASSUME the manual trans is the same, but i do not know for sure. i have never worked with one. good luck. TOONGA
I put a liberty 5MT + EJ22 engine into my brumby/brat it had a speed sensor where the cable for the speedo sits. the speed sensor was removed and the cable slotted/screwed directly in and still works to this day.
