Fog Light Kit questions for 2000 Subaru Impreza 2.2L Sedan

I just purchased a 2000 Impreza 2.2L Sedan for my 3 teenage kids to share. I'd like to install the OEM fog light kit on this car, but I have a few questions.

 

* A user on another site said "the car should already be pre-wired for the fog light kit". Is this correct? I'm hoping that I only need to get a kit for part # H4510FA220:

* If the car isn't pre-wired, then what else would I need in addition to the kit?

 

* I'm seeing kits for part # H4510FA220 ranging from $158 to $199. Are these the same kits? Some kits don't have photos, so I can't tell.

 

* The installation instruction from the thread below only refer to 1998 and 1999 models; mine is a 2000 model. Any guesses about installation differences for the 2000 model?

* Is this something I can install myself over a weekend? I have decades of experience building model airplanes from scratch, and I have also built and soldered many guitar pedals, but I've never done *any* automotive work. I do have all the tools I'd need.

And here's the front-end of my Subaru. It looks like my covers are for round fog lights, but the ones in the kit are more rectangular shaped.

I'm not familiar with the Impreza fog light mounting. Legacy from that era was incredibly easy to install. It looks like the kit includes all of the brackets you should need.

 

For wiring its pretty simple. The factory wiring kits are simple to install, but fairly expensive. If there's a junk yard nearby that lets you pull parts yourself that would be good to get a wire kit from. Cheaper, and you can see how its routed and where all the wires connect. Be sure to get the relay as well.

If I had more time, or if there were a junkyard relatively close to me that might be an option. But the nearest big junkyard is a bit of a trek.

 

It sounds like you're saying that if I get the kit, it will include everything I need, correct? I may pay more than sourcing the parts myself, but I'm seeing these kits for under $160 which doesn't seem like highway robbery.

The RS25.com link I provided in the OP has scans of a 4-page instruction sheet from an OEM fog light kit. I'm including them here for completeness in this thread. The one question I have is that these instructions only refer to 1998 and 1999 models, and the installation location for the switch is different for each model year. My car is a 2000 year model. I'm going to assume that I should follow the 1999 instructions unless I hear otherwise.

There *seem* to be a LOT of sites selling this kit, but the only one with a photo is in the OP above (eBay auction). Unfortunately, that one is also the most expensive at $199.

If you order it from a Subaru dealer site you'll definitely get the right parts.

Find an online dealer relatively close to you to save some on shipping.

Thanks. These guys are also in Olympia, WA...about an hour south of me. (It might be faster to just drive there!)

 

Anyway, I'll call around tomorrow. Some site ship for free, others have a shipping cost based on the final sales price. I'll need to compare apples and apples.
