EastCoastEJ22T
Hey guys!A good friend just picked up a '01 H6 outback for cheap locally, it isin great shape overall but has a patched rear sub-frame. I have workedon suby's for years and own a '03 Legacy myself ..... so was aware ofthe issue on the 00-04 gen's have been planning on picking up a extrarust-free rear sub-frame for my '03 to keep in parts stock anyway. Here is the question. Can I use rear subframe from a '04+legacy/outback on a 00-04? Subaru has always been a "lego" manufacturerand when I replaced my '95 Legacy rear sub-frame I used a '03 Imprezaand it bolted right up.There are zero 00-04 locally to me with solid sub-frames, but there is a'07 XT just up the road that is very low mileage and solid. Afterlooking at a few pics it really looks like the fourth gen sub-frame isthe exact same, minus a exhaust hanger loaction which is a easy fix.Anyone know for sure if they bolt up? Anyone try one out yet? Any input or parts info would be appreciated.Cheers,Ian
Fairtax4me
Rear suspension changed entirely in 05, so I think the 05+ rear subframe would be just different enough to not work. Cheapest option would probably be to have one shipped from the west or the south. But if worst comes to worst, its only about $400 for a brand new rear subframe from a dealer. Locally they are $795.00 from the dealership ...... Holy spoob! I do have a '00 parts car at my fathers and it has a servicable subframe, not perfect but better then this patched one ...... but like IVANS its buried until springtime. I just know that the yard that has the '07 XT is a small time outfit and doesn't really know what they have, i picked up the momo wheel for $20 & odds are the subframe will be very cheap! The next time my father comes up with his '09 Outback I will jump under it compare the body/lateral link mounts and take some measurements, or maybe go pull some specs off the '07 XT ...... I work as a aircraft mechanic and am pretty good at "mesuring twice and swapping once". I still have faith that Subaru is far to cheap to only use a major componenet on only one generations run of the Legacy! Guess I will be the first really look into this. ivans imports
I have been under a lot of both years I don't think they are the same but I might be wrong
EastCoastEJ22T
I have been under a lot of both years I don't think they are the same but I might be wrong I found a southern USA imported sub-frame today locally ..... through a local suby forum member for $450. Thats not bad for a easy pickup part in great condition, I saw a few pics today and it is very mint. I will be recommending to my friend the H6's owner that we go in this dirrection. I will still be taking some comparisons and measuremnet the next time I have a 4th gen in my driveway, its still worth investigating alternative options in my opinion.
