Skylar
Was doing some tinkering on my weber today. Mainly just to see if I've been running the right jets and to try an diagnose my poor fuel mpg. I've been getting like 23-26 mpg which isn't horrible but I feel like I could squeeze a few more miles out of each gallon. I found my mains to be a bit rusty as well as the bottom of my float bowl. I pulled the accelerator pump jet to see if it was the correct one but it didn't show any numbers on it. When I pulled that I jet I found it to have the teeniest tiniest little pin hole for fuel to come out of. I feel like it was manufactured correctly. My question is have any of you guys that have dealt with w ebers over the years seen a pin hole this small on a pump jet ? I don't even think I could get the tip of a toothpick in there Lol .... Hey Skylar, Your mains shouldn't be rusty because they are brass. The rust on the bottom of the bowl is from the rest of the system..rusty fuel lines, rust in the tank etc.. I've only seen numbers on a few Weber accelerator jets and your options aren't big, so unless you have serious accelerating issues, its probably fine. The part you pictured isn't a jet, just a discharge nozzle for the acceleration circuit. Its also normal for one side to not be machined out, like yours. 23-26 mpg's is a little low. Have you checked the #' on your mains, idles and air corrector's and compared it to whats recommended? you may just need to lean it out a little. Some accelerator linkages are adjustable too, so make sure its set to the shortest throw. Little ea82's don't need big shots of fuel. Josh
Dinky26
On a good day I can get 23 mpg. Not even 26 mpg....ugh. I guess I better see if I can lean mine out too.
Skylar
Yeah they're not rusty. There's just a little rust in the fuel bowl. Most likely from the gas tank as I've swapped a handful of filters out since Ive had the car. I've changed the fuel hoses as well. I know they make single shot & double shot discharge nozzles. The doubles I know are for bigger applications/motors. Our little 32/36 w ebers come with a single. My question is, should my hole be that tiny on the discharge nozzle ? I feel like it shouldve been machined out to the perimeter of the hole .... I am running the correct jets. I have 140/140 mains. 170/160 air corrector. And 60/50 on the idle jets. I have it timed around 10° When I got the car & rebuilt the weber I didnt replace the jets. They were clogged from sitting for 2 years. So I just soaked em in carb cleaner & then sprayed through em with the straw on the carb cleaner. Maybe I should buy all new ones ..... I'm also running 205/70/14s which could be causing an effect on my mpg too ...
Skylar
Oh, and I guess I should've said this Weber is on an Ea81 ..... Lol
El Presidente
No, the discharge nozzle looks like it was machined correctly to me. The double discharge nozzles are mostly seen on syncro 38/38's or application specific(custom) 32/36's. I say leave it alone I'd try bumping that timing up to 15* or maybe more, you can get aggressive with the timing when your running a Weber. Go as far advanced as you can, as long as it doesn't ping. Advancing the timing will help with the motor run more efficiently, which helps MPG's, and will also help bump the low end torque, which will help turn those bigger tires. Considering the size of tires your running and if your a little heavy on the skinny, that would account for the lower MPG's. If you want more out of that EA81, run an EA82 SPFI on it. If you don't want to do that, you could also drop some EA82 pistons in it, you don't even have to split the block for that. Josh
Skylar
Okay ill play with the timing a bit & see what I can get out of it. Spfi swap is in the process. Got my ecu in the mail today. Have a spfi pump from the wagon. Getting an intake & disty from Subruise tonight & im heading up to Arlington tomorrow for a harness. Now to find the time to do the swap on one of these upcoming weeks when i have some days off
