yellowjacket500 Posted January 14, 2014 Share Posted January 14, 2014 Was looking into doing an AWD Subaru powered VW rabbit GTI, they are just so light and small I think it would be sweet, especially building it for a turbo as well. Just wondering if anyone has seen this done or has any input. I believe that an Impreza is my best candidate since the wheelbase is around 4 inches longer. Just not sure if the engine cradle is going to fit between my unibody. Anyone willing to measure the Engine cradle on lets say a mid 90's Impreza wagon or sedan? Still in the planning stages and trying to get another rabbit gti body. Also where do people normally find complete drivetrains on here? Junkyards? Classifieds? Any input is appreciated. Does anyone know if there is a difference in physical size between the 2.5 in an outback and say a 2.2 or 2.0. Is the sohc smaller than the dohc? Uberoo Posted January 31, 2014 Share Posted January 31, 2014 The only way something like that will fit is with the SOHC heads,DOHC are much to wide.Subaru EJ's are all about the same width,the different displacement comes from bigger bores. Numbchux Posted August 5, 2014 Share Posted August 5, 2014 I've seen it done with a Civic, and a Celica. You basically cut the "body" from the floor pan on both cars, and swap the body. So the floor pan, firewall, suspension, and all suspension mounts are all Subaru, with the body of your choice over the top. People seem to wreck them left and right because they watch F&F movies and don't realize it's all CGI and their WRX can't fall out of an airplane and still drive They can't run that much in the auctions as I see people buying a bunch of them for the purpose of parting out rather than fixing. Figure $3k-8k depending on condition. A flood car might be ideal as the parts that got wet won't matter, and as long as it wasn't started since the flood nor have standing water in the engine. ECM may or may not work depending how wet everything got. A replacement ECM would be cheap anyways, but the flood car shouldn't have the physical damage and most people shy away from them as rebuild candidates anyway as used lots won't bother with them.
