Weber carb to EA82 intake gaskets...

Recommended Posts

Where do I get the individual gaskets for my Weber 32/36 DGEV for my EA82 intake?

Mine started leaking... and causing a smokey mess under the hood :P

I heard it was okay to use Loctite 518/Anaerobic Sealant instead of them or use them and coat them in ultra grey RTV?

Obviously the Anaerobic sealant would be easier to come by... but Ive only seen it used once about a year ago and have no idea what the long term hold-up on it is...

Ive had a few people mention using gasket paper...

Is there a specific brand thats better than others? I put Ned through a ton of abuse daily... At least until the WRX is in the picture... then Ned goes under the knife for an EJ swap in of which my carb gasket wont mean much... but Id say I need another 6 months of abuse. I have pictures of the leakage Ill try to post up very shortly

if the gasket is fairly new you might just be able to reuse it.  if you pull it all off and use some aluminum fill putty (like jbweld but make sure it will bond to aluminum) you can fill that coolant hole up and then the gasket just needs to seal the air to the carb like it was designed to do.  if you do make a gasket then i would make sure that the material is suitable for stopping coolant since that is your main problem.

Oh, I think I see the problem.  So you appear to be leaking coolant from the carb base heater thingie.  There is a line that comes from the block to the bottom of the intake (I think on the front).  Its purpose is to heat up the base of the carb to help prevent ice (well so I have been told).  What I did on my GL is take off the carb and adapter plate.  Under there is a metal tube that comes up and into that hole that you see.  I ground the hose down flush (it pops up a little)... I can't remember how deep I went with the dremel... I may have even gone a little deeper to give me more room to work in that hole in the intake coolant chamber.  I filled that little coolant chamber with JB weld.  It will need to cure for at least 24 hours to be safe.

So that will cure your leak there if you put on new gaskets when you put it back together.

Now... you don't really want coolant getting up there if possible so I got some universal hose (I think I used fuel line because its more reinforced) and ran it between the nipple on the engine block and the base of the intake.  Before I installed it I got a 1 inch long metal stud of the proper size (about 1/4") and used a hose clamp to hold the stud in place in the middle of the hose.

Do NOT try to just clamp a vac plug onto the nipple on the engine block... the car will blow it off (I tried it, it failed in a rallycross)

I hope that all makes sense.  Send me a text if you want more detail
