Speedwagon Posted January 20, 2014 Share Posted January 20, 2014 I've had a push fan that I bought from a junkyard(off a Mercedes) for probably 18 months now. Finally got around to putting in the Brat today. I removed the stock electric fan, as the upper radiator hose rubs against it with the SPFI swap. Put the MB fan on the front of the radiator, same location. Perfect fit. Currently it is just wire tied there, as I need to make some more permanent mounts for it. But I got it wired up, and it works great. Seems to cool it back down rather quickly when the ECU tells it to come on. Anyone know the best way to wire up a manual switch to it? I put a manual switch on my Legacy at the ECU, but the ECU doesn't like that and throws a CEL everytime I use the switch(unable to control fan circuit code). Does the EA82 ECU do the same thing? 987687 Posted January 20, 2014 Share Posted January 20, 2014 The other good vehicles to pull radiator fans out of is the ford taurus and volvos. The volvos actually have a nice two speed fan, so you can chose high or low, if you ever wanted to do that. The legacy ECU probably notices there's no continuity through the coil of the relay, or it can sense a voltage going to the fan that shouldn't be there (because it wants the fan off). It shouldn't be anything super tricky, you could probably fool it fairly easily. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
MilesFox Posted January 21, 2014 Share Posted January 21, 2014 Assuming your new fan is installed with the existing fan's wiring, you can manually override the fan by installing a switch that shorts the thermoswitch to gtround which turns the fan on. this way, if you forget to turn the fan in, it will come on by itself if it is wired up correctly Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I want the ECU to be able to control the fan as normal, while adding the function to force the fan on when slow moving on a trail or something.
