Trident
While replacing the rotten fuel tank in my '86 GL I broke off the vent lines that go to the vapor separator inside the rear passenger side fender. ::frustration:: The lines broke off right at or inside of the fender. What is the best course of action? Could I run new lines from the tank and zip-tie them to the fuel neck, effectively venting them to the outside air? I also have the third line, a metal one, that comes back from the fuel filter/pump area. What effects, if any, am I going to experience? Keep in mind that I live in an area not subject to any emissions testing. Thanks guys!
wagonist
You can access all of this stuff by removing the trim in the back. It's not difficult to change, just a bit fiddly cos of the limited space. It would be best to change it, as it's designed to cope with the expansion of fuel in the tank as it warms up, not for emissions. I think you idea might end up with you dripping fuel out of the back of the car. As a short term fix, there's a line running in & another out, so you'd want to make sure you divert both at the least, otherwise you might end up with fuel vapours in the cabin. Not sure how you got with the condition of spares in your area, but have a scour around the wrecking yards.
ruparts
hi, there are 3 lines going to that vapor canister. the lines are metal leaving the tank, rubber going through body frame section , and connect back to metal tubes that are part of the assembly that is mounted inside that back panel , the plastic tank and a metal surround that also is used to mount it to the body. it is fairly hard to ruin the assembly but the little clamps are a pain, and you should be able to just replace the rubber lines.
