NGK
Can somebody suggest where and how to find an aftermarket Sunroof for my 2000 Subaru Outback? (It is a standard model w/o a factory sunroof.) It's ok if the configuration is different from the factory sunroof. In fact, I would prefer manual operation (not motorized). Thanks!
AdventureSubaru
Not likely to find an aftermarket that will fit without a good deal of modification. Your best bet would be to try and find a used one from a 2000-2004 Legacy GT or similar. Would be the same body and should require less work on your part. NGK
I am considering that possibility and looking for one of those. However, if I go that route, I would almost for sure want to use the parts to make a manual (non motorized) sunroof. Do you have experience with that sort of conversion? What do you know about sunroofs?
AdventureSubaru
Not much. You could probably learn a lot by taking a trip to a pick n pull or similar self serve auto yard and just looking for a manual sunroof so you can view the mechanics of it. I think some of the 80s hondas had them. You could try and swap one in, but it may or may not fit well with the roof lines of a subaru.
gbhrps
NGK, I've been around long enough to remember all of those aftermarket sunroofs (1970's and 80's) you could buy and install yourself. Your best route is to go online and check out TG Automotive Sunroof & T Top Specialists. They have complete manual kits from $162 to $270 US. They look like well engineered units, and not too pricey. I'm sure there are others out there as well. Good Luck!
