The Scooby
put on my pugs, well when i drove with my 13's it seemed to pull to the right a little, nothing major, but now it will pull to the left or right, never really returning back to strait, and it gets REALLY bad above 65, it will jump back and forth, when i tried to balance it today it wouldn't sit right on the tire machine at school, no matter what i did, it seems to be off, well i think i found out what is wrong, i was sold a bent rim, so now, how do i go about getting the rim restraitened, or how do i get a cheap pug 505 15inch alloy wheel? Thanks, Shean
TomRhere
Sorry, but alloy wheels can't be straightened. Majorly great chance of catastophic failure of said rim. Steel rims can be straightened, but it's pricey to do. And that's if you could find a place to do it. Are you sure the rim is bent? Have you tried rotating tires around to different corners of the vehicle? Reason for asking is, other mechanical problems could be at fault here. Worn, tie-rod ends, ball-joints, lower control arm bushings. An axle nut may be loose, allowing wheel to wobble a bit. That usually shows up as a dive to one side or the other when you let off of the gas pedal. Just some thoughts on the problem is all.
edrach
Not to dispute an earlier comment, but there's a shop in Ballard that specializes in repairing alloy rims. They are a bit pricey, but this might be a solution for you. I'll look for the information and post it again; or you could do a search since I had offered that information before. His ways are very primitive and didin't true up the rim very well. I was dissatisfied and wouldn't recommend going there.
northguy
$100 to straighten a rim? What's a new one cost? I can buy new ones for $85 each.
carfreak85
After reading your post, it reminded me of a Sport Compact Car article. They had a project WRX and they described some of the same wandering you are talking about. Turned out their front wheel bearings were toast. Just a thought!
