chasfx
Okay. I have a 1990 Legacy wagon that's falling apart EXCEPT for the engine which is still great at 133K. I recently (6 months ago) and against the advice of my better half, bought a 2000 Forester 5 speed manual with 160 on the clock. I changed the clutch (and axle) but like a fool neglected to change the timing belt. Result, currently running (sort of) on 3 cylinders lol. So the obvious: how feasable would it be to put the phase I 2.2 in where the 2.5 phase II was? Any thoughts appreciated...and bear in mind IDKS about this, thanks. heartless
it could be done, but it wouldnt be an easy swap as the upper wiring harness is different, the 90 is OBD I, not OBD II compatible, and a few other issues. you would be better off finding a more compatible version of the 2.2 for your swap. Gloyale
The engine itself is an easy direct bolt in. As for wiring.......you can swap the throttle body and wiring from the EJ25 manifold onto the EJ22 manifold. You will need to swap pigtails for the injectors to match the old 2.2 ones.....and you'll need a plate to put between the Throttle Body and the Manifold that blocks the IAC port in the Throttle Body of the 2.5 You won't have warm up idle.....but a few seconds with your foot on the gas in the morn will deal with that. 86BRATMAN
Are you sure it's just simply out of time, you have a non interference engine so there is zero chance of valve damage with a broken belt.
