GL/Loyale front+ rear disc cross drilled rotors?

Hey all,

 

On my 92' Loyale the rear brakes were converted to disc brakes before i bought it and i believe the donor was an 88' GL10 but not 100% sure. My question is are the front disc rotors the same as the rear disc rotors? I've been looking on amazon at cross drilled/slotted rotors to put on my car and a store called Emil Performance says they have the fronts but no way on the rears. But further searching says they have all four for a turbo loyale for $194.

 

Has anyone put cross drilled rotors on there loyale/gl on here and if so where did you buy your parts, how much were they and also did i read something about someone using Honda calipers on the back?

 

FYI: I'd like to upgrade my brakes simply because i tow trailers and would like the extra stopping power in case something crazy happens. Thanks dudes!

Thanks brotherman, i was just on another website called cquence and they specialize in drilled and slotted rotors. I might just take off the rear wheel and measure the rotor and see what all of the specs are as well.

 

I dont want to do a 5 lug swap because ive already done the 6 lug redrill and put on brand new wheels and tires haha.

If you're going to cross drilled, make sure they're good quality. A lot of rotors crack between the drill holes.

Better to go with slotted only IMHO.

 

I've got some mid 90s Honda calipers on the rear of my car. bolt the floating brake part (which holds the pads) onto the Subaru carrier.

Easiest way it to take your rear calipers apart & then take the carrier to the wrecker & pull off various Honda calipers till you find the correct one.

You'll have to do some modification of the cables and/or lever to make the rear handbrake work though.

I do not agree with that Statement, because the Easiest way is to Read my Writeup on the Subject, which is plenty of Photos and step by step explanations on the procedures, parts used, etc...

 

The rear Honda Calipers are intended to have Rear Parkin' Brake only, not extra braking power.

 

But also you can have two levers, keeping the front parking brake, for severe offroad use, :) as a diff lock of some sort.

I said to take the carrier to the wrecker, because Honda used that style of caliper on a number of different models (Accord, Legend, Integra, ...) all through the 90s. But they're not all the same.

You've only mentioned one model, which is now very old. Doing it my way gives the chance to get newer parts from a wider range of vehicles (some of which aren't available in every country).

 

I don't know if you did the same, but I used the left Honda caliper on the right side, and vice versa. Makes the handbrake cable line up better.

 

And seeing as you got custom cables done, why not just get uber long ones that fit up to the Subaru lever? I ran them forward through the tunnel, & then looped them back 180 degrees over the top of the trans where the tunnel starts to get a bit wider.

Looks neater (& factory ;) )

 

Definitely agree with the comment about braking power though. These are only to move the handbrake to the back.

 

If you want a brake increase then work out how to fit Legacy, etc brakes. STi Brembos are a possibility if you want  :o

Wow, thanks for all the good info guys! I really appreciate it and i will keep an eye out for some good slotted rotors, i could definitely see rotors cracking between the holes if the quality is bad.

 

Then again putting on brand new rotors and pads from the autoparts store would probably be just fine as well, just thought a brake upgrade would be cool. Now to read that thread sir loyale 2.7 :)

I Agree, also that is what I originally did to find a Suitable Replacement.

Basically, because I don't liked the idea of have a 180º turn on a steel cables; I prefer them to be as Straight as Possible, in order to have the Best direct force relation between the Handle Lever and the Calipers' Levers, otherwise I believe that some effort is lost on the curve, and also such curvature could lead to premature wear to the Cable's wrapping, but not too severe, as the parking brake cables doesn't move all the time... maybe it is a matter of personal preferences only. :)
