Cyfun
I have an '80 Brat and it does not have a passenger side mirror. It's pretty dangerous when I have a load in the back and can't see to change lanes. Does anyone have or know where I could get a passenger side view mirror for an EA71, or at least know of an aftermarket mirror or one from another car that might mount up? I'm tempted to just get a bigass universal fit pickup mirror, but it'd be pretty garish.
Uberoo
I don't believe any of the subarus of that era actually came with a passenger mirror. If they did it was pretty rare. You could always adapt a set of mirrors from a later model subaru like an 84 for instance.Or even go JDM with a universal set of fender mount mirrors. Leeroy
I am sure they would have been optional from the dealer, like they were here in Australia. Of course that would mean there are not many around, although I have seen a couple of matched sets crop up from time to time on eBay US.
d8usti5n
my 80 brat came with both sides, but they fall out of place when you hit a bump :/ i've seen after market mirrors at autozone that will fit, also check ebay, there is all kinds of mirrors that will fit. Leeroy
my 80 brat came with both sides, but they fall out of place when you hit a bump :/ You need to unscrew your mirrors and tighten the spring/screw mechanism. This will stop the mirrors moving when you hit bumps.
Cyfun
Thanks for the tips, guys. And I know they must've made mirrors for the right side since in Japan they drive on the right side. I poked around on ebay and didn't find a damn thing when looking for side view mirrors that'd fit an '80 Brat. I've always wanted fender mirrors but haven't found a good source for those either. Do you guys know for sure that ea81 or ea82 mirrors will mount onto an ea71, or are you just guessing?
Leeroy
The mirrors are on the right side in Australia too. The only spare one I have is not in good condition, the gasket is missing and so is the screw that holds the base to the mirror part . However, the mirror itself is fine. I should be able to find a suitable screw and I made a gasket out of rubber for the LHD side once, which could be used on the RHD too. It's yours if you pay shipping to the US but I kinda think you will find one eventually. 1979 to 1982 second generation mirrors are exactly the same except for the larger base plate that mounts/screws onto the door. Without checking I think the mounting holes are further apart but this does not matter as they are only held on with self tapping screws. It would be a simple install. Later EA81 and EA82 mirrors have more complicated mounting arrangements. Certainly EA82 mirrors would need some work to fit, I'm not certain on the EA81 versions after '82. Yeah, the shipping would probably kill the deal. Was looking at some universal mirrors at the parts store and they're under $15. But thanks for the info on the 79-82 mirrors. Sadly, my local junk yard has maybe ONE ea81 car, I'll have to look at it again. I have a set I took off let me know if you want it! How much are you asking? moosens
79 they started putting passenger side mirrors on most Subarus. Seems strange your '80 doesn't have both sides but maybe it's a base model. Those mirrors are around but hard to come by.

Seems pretty rare as I mostly only see the quad headlight EA71s if any. What I think I might do is raid some big old truck mirrors from the junkyard and mount them on my fenders. Uberoo
"Got your ears on son?" Those big truck mirrors look way out of place, like the car has ears or wings. Not to mention they stick out far from the body so its easy to damage them.

Hah yep, that's why I was thinking of mounting them on the fender, so they'd be slightly out of the way. And as much as I hate to bastardize a cool car with unoriginal stuff... this thing is like 40% body rust, and ugly as HELL. The wheels don't match, the windshield is cracked, has no muffler, heater doesn't work, driver's door won't unlock from the outside, tailgate handle is broken, and the left tail light is busted so I duct taped a random tail light from the junk yard over it. It's basically a cheap shitbox, so I don't feel too guilty about making it uglier.

Leeroy
Here you go Cyfun, this is a RHD mirror for the early '80s Subarus but it is basically the same as the late '70s version (accepting the slightly larger mounting plate). http://www.ebay.com/itm/SUBARU-MIRROR-1988-MODEL-AY-DOOR-RH-791032021-NEW-OLD-STOCK-/141276309753?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item20e4b968f9&vxp=mtr The date in the listing is way out! Thanks! I'll keep an eye on it. If it goes much over $20, though, I'll probably just go with the big truck mirrors on the fender. Oh, and get this: I scored a box misc of 78-80 Brat parts AND a topper for $45 today. No tail light lenses, but a pair of complete turn signals, a wiper motor, a turn signal stalk, and bunch of other random crap.
adema2626
Just saw this, but I have a Gen1 Brat passenger mirror some where in my collection of crap. Also have the gasket somewhere as well. I'll see if I can find it tomorrow.

adema2626
Sorry for the delay. I looked and I found the gasket, but could not find the mirror for the life of me. I'll keep looking and keep you updated. -Aaron
Cyfun
No worries. I'm now actually considering slicing up my box and installing a flatbed, so I'll probably need gigantic mirrors anyway.
