TallonX
All I've seen on this transmission states 4 gear ratios this 2000 Impreza is going through 5 gears, any thoughts?
1 Lucky Texan
??? under certain circumstances, I can see top gear on my 03 H6 Outback's 4EAT 'unlock' the torque converter before downshifting. maybe you're seeing that and thinking it's a gear? TallonX
No issues with it, definitely 1-2-3-(D)-4-5 Drops to about 2k rpm at 55mph This have something with the WX at the end of the trans code?
bratman18
I really think it's just what was said, the torque converter is unlocking, allowing for the RPM's to drop for better gas mileage at cruising speed.
TallonX
Owe... I just gave myself a migraine... Information overload... It's possible what you say bratman, just not what it hears/feels like... Idk honestly... Not the first car that that I've had where it's had something that's not supposed to exist, just wondering if any other 00 Impreza L owners are having a similar experience
TallonX
This is a 4EAT Phase 2 trans code right?
CNY_Dave
The lockup is good for 500 rpm on mine, at least. If that trans has a higher stall speed converter it could be a good bit more. Mine will lock up in D and 3 and I think 2.
1 Lucky Texan
No issues with it, definitely 1-2-3-(D)-4-5are you saying the shifter console is marked like that? post a pic.
TallonX
Shifter says 1-2-3-D was referencing how it feels when popping through the shift select
1 Lucky Texan
maybe you're hearing heat shields or another noise, or the tranny's fluid level is off or ??? anyway - I looked around briefly and the number on the pic you posted is typical 4EAT number for Imprezas around 1999 +/- it seems. heartless
as already mentioned - torque converter locking/unlocking. took me a while to get used to it when I got into a 4EAT car after having a 5 spd for so many years... especially noticeable between 3 and 4, like there is an extra shift... TallonX
Thanks for the search, I came to the same conclusion when I did. Verification is always nice lol tho it did raise more questions on the WX at the end... Date code maybe? I don't feel the half shifts like so many people have mentioned, 250k mi is as such... So in conclusion from what I've been pouring over... The torque converter unlocks under acceleration The toque converter locks at highway speeds when a near 1:1 ratio between the in put and out put Been awhile since I've fiddled with automatics, new fangled bs... Yadda... Yadda... Just hits like overdrive in an Exploder, probly the reason it's feeling like another gear
