DmanForester
Hi Guys I have a 2003 Subaru Forester 2.0 XT. I am after getting a little more power out of it but I do want to try keep the fuel economy down as much as possible. What would you guys suggest? Would it be pushing the boost up a little or a new turbo or any other parts? On your choice what else would it affect as well?
presslab
I'd start with the exhaust system. Up-pipe first, then turbo-back exhaust. This will also reduce turbo lag and make it more responsive.
DmanForester
Thanks for the reply. Will this cause any changes in the fuel economy and which brands or types would you suggest?
Rooster2
Thanks for the reply. Will this cause any changes in the fuel economy and which brands or types would you suggest? At best I think you may get 1 mpg more with a turbo-backed exhaust. Exhaust sound (noise) will be slightly louder too. More then likely you will like the "throaty" sound, but it will compete with the car's stereo system, as the trade off.
presslab
You can get an idea of decent exhaust systems by looking at the http://rallysportdirect.com web site. I personally have cheaper parts from eBay but I had to cut and weld some pieces to make it fit right.
