blitz
When my A/C compressor operates, the engine cooling fan operates along with it. OK, normal. Alright now when I'm cruising down the road using the A/C, does the engine cooling fan still operate in concert with the compressor?
Tiny Clark
Damn, this is so simple... Why don't you get out and check??? That is one diagram I didn't download when I had my alldata account. But, I am relatively sure that the fan is turned on via the A/C or defroster switch. Good idea if you are stuck in traffic and it's hot out to turn on the A/C, which will keep the fan running. blitz
Thanks Tiny. My question arises from the fact that the A/C fans: 1. Wear out. 2. Are huge resource hogs. 3. Are not nesessary at speeds above 25mph / 40kph. It bugs me to think that the fans may be running in concert with the A/C compressor when I'm cruising on the highway. Is it possible that someone knows the answer to this question?
camosuba
yes they are running the car is smart, but the a/c can't tell if you are moving so they take the safe route and assume you're not.
Impreza_WRX_STi
So if you are driving 50 MPH, the wind speed is bogging down your fans, and the fans are blocking the forcible wind to the radiator. I am pretty sure my 93 Impreza's fans don't continuously run with the A/C on. Maybe it does, in 6 years I may have never realized it. MAX
Tiny Clark
OK, someone strap a camcorder inside the engine bay and find out what happens!! I already did the intake temp experiment, so I'm through for the year!
