simbey1982
Hello all, Well i will skip the formalities and get right to it. I have a 97 impreza, with 276000 miles, AT. It has Alloy Wheels, New Toyo tires, and the suspension has been checked for play. What is happening, is that every once and awhile at speeds above 30, i get a very odd vibration. The whole car shakes, sometimes rather violently. But under deceleration when i accelerate the vibration goes away. My subaru buddy has told me to have the alignment done and tires balanced and to check for even wear on the tires, bulges, etc. Will be doing that in a couple days. It also only seems to happen on trips over 20 miles, and in the warm weather. Any tips would be great. I just bought the car about 2 weeks ago...please let me know what you think Cory

Nug
Does it do it in turns? If so, I'd say torque bind. If not, I think you might have a u-joint going bad, or a bad cv joint.

rugbyben
check tire pressure cold, then after a good drive. make sure all 4 match both times. it may show different pressure, and might account for the shake and why it only happens those certain times. simbey1982
Well i took the car to have an alignment and also tires balanced, and pressure checked. All three were off. After having all that done, i cant reproduce the shaking at all so that must be it. although there is a slight random shuddering in the steering whell now...but the body does not shake at all..thanks for insight any idea on the steering wheel? Kostamojen
The steering wheel vibration isnt probably something that deals with the wheel itself. Check for flat spots on the tires, bad suspension bushings, warped rotors, etc.
