rete
Hi, Im new to subaru's and new to driving a manual too,(never going back ).I have a 1997 subaru impreza outback that needs a little TLC and I need some ideas about what and how to fix the problem that my car is experiencing. There is a rubber on rubber squeaking sound from the front left wheel when I turn left and speeds of 40 mph or less. I have replaced the inner and outer tie rods, front left brake caliper ,rotors and pads on the front left and right ,struts, and replaced the bad hub,bad wheel bearings with a used hub. New serp belt and powersteering belt?(two belts at the front) Again, its only on the front left and only noticeable at speeds under 40 mph and when I make any kind of left turn.Alignment is fine, tires good.Oh yeah, its only after the car has been driven for a fewmiles. What could it be???? Fairtax4me
Does it sound like a tire screaching or is it more like the farty kinda noise that leather seats make when you slide across them?

rete
It's more like a rotating rubbery chirping
Fairtax4me
Possible your power steering belt is a little loose. There isn't anything in the wheel area that would squeak like that.
1 Lucky Texan
dunno why it would be directionally biased, but maybe the crank pulley is starting to separate/wobble? could the strut mount be squeaking? maybe debris behind brake dust shield ? do you mean there's squeaking AS you turn the wheel? or, DURING the turn as the car moves with the wheels turned? rete
Replaced the front left cv axle with a brand new one.I have used forester struts on the front passenger and driver side. The rubber squeaking and chirping is gone, but what remains is a tick tock click sound from the front left wheel area at under 3rpms.Im not sure if it goes away after 3 rpms or if my muffler noise drowns it out at higher speeds.(and much more noticable as your driving rather than walking alongside) ????????????????/ Edited June 19, 2014 by rete
