KnpallLegagyGT9298
Hey everyone, im super new to forums and such....(not very computer smart) but i need some tips!...I have a 98 legacy GT limited and my heatshields on my headers sound like absolute garbage...i need to pull those off, (shouldnt be too bad with a torch) but im not sure what to do with the exhaust afterwords. SO....punch out the cats to make it sound nice and scoobish? i did that on my brothers Audi and it worked fine... BTW..my legacy is NA and automatic for those who dont know the "limited editions" Any tips would be much appreciated!!
MilesFox
This should be osted in the modifications or performance forums. The shop talk forum is for discussing tools, equipment, techniques, etc. Either use dryer clamps to ckamp the heat shileds, or just tear them off with pliers. Do not pucn out the carts as your car will never run right, get poor mileage, and sting your eyes with extra rich fumes. Don't do it. Do your exhaust mods by either swapping out the header itself, or do it with the midpipe and axleback. ditch the muffler and go straight pipe, if you ask me, with a glass pack in place of the resonator. There is much to be appreciated by removing the muffler alone. You may lose some torque but it will sound novel.

Rooster2
Noted... How exactly will it not run right? Just curious, im not going for performance just want a little noise and too look good. and thanks! The cat is an intergal part of the performance package. Attached to the cat is an oxygen sensor that feeds a constant signal to the engine management computer for best performance, and low exhaust emissions. Damage the cat and or the 02 sensor, and your performance will be slower, and gas millage will drop some 2 to 3 mpg.

heartless
dont mess with the cat converter. If you want a little noise replace the stock muffler with a Cherry Bomb Turbo unit (oval can) had one of these on my 90 Legacy LS - nice grumble but not overly loud or obnoxious if you want to be obnoxious, go with the standard Cherry Bomb glasspack Edited June 10, 2014 by heartless
bratman18
If you want the subaru rumble, you need a UEL header and then a more free flowing muffler.
MilesFox
Lust because it's a legacy don't mean that impreza parts won't fit. Good luck
