yblocker
You can use a tandem bicycle rear brake cable (it's long enough) to repair your broken hood latch cable. The hood can be opened with a long screw driver and some fussing from underneath. Remove the grill and the latch assembly (3 bolts), hook the anchor end of the brake cable to the latch then thread it through the housing into the car. Re-mount the latch, make a handle out of wood or whatever you like. Easy.
987687
Bicycle cables are also useful for turning into a clutch cable when yours breaks in rush hour traffic 4 hours from home ...
Rust
So we have learned always have a bicycle strapped to the roof of your subaru to either raid for parts, or to use as an escape pod if your subaru breaks down. Good Tip. Don't forget to have a pair of roller blades strapped to the bicycle in case it also breaks down and leaves you stranded.

moosens
Lol I've been synchro shifting my 78 for almost a year now. Unfortunately a cable of any sort won't help because it's the pedal box that's the problem. We once got a gen one brat back like a 3 hour drive or more by somehow using a brake cable I rigged up for the clutch. Not sure what vehicle the donor cable came from. 987687
I actually had to use my bicycle once when my subaru broke down. I wasn't really very happy, but wicked glad I had the bike.
