AC leakage

Recommended Posts

My 87 GL has some serious AC leaking going on. It's just water but it's so much that I think it gets backed up trying to drain out of the hose. I've had the guys at the dealership look at it 3 times and several other mechanically inclined friends but no one can figure out how to stop it or control it. I'm starting to think I should just jury-rig something that would work as an additional drain-tube of sorts. Does anyone have any advice? I'm attaching some pics. The one with the areas circled in red are the areas with the most leakage.

If it's only leaking water when the AC is on, then there is debris in the evaporator box that is plugging up the drain tube. I've ran into it on other vehicles. One a mouse got into and nested then moved out and the other was just crap growing in it. No mater how many times we blew out or roto-routed the drain, it would eventually start backing up. We had to disassemble the box and clean it out.

Thanks for the response! I'll try to clean out the evaporator box again, but it's already been done multiple times--the first couple times it was definitely nasty and needed a thorough cleaning. Even after it's cleaned out, it starts leaking a day later. If it was just a little bit of water I'd be able to just let it go but it is a crazy amount of water. it ruined the carpeting on the passenger side :-( I try to vacuum it out and air dry it when possible but when its 80% humidity outside it doesn't do much good. I'll take another look at the evaporator box and see if its clogged enough to lead to that much water leakage. thanks again.
