unibrook
Car will run fine for part of the day. Then sometimes, later in day, the engine will buck and sputter in a fit of lack of power. Won't idle correctly anymore, stalls out. Won't restart. Then it sits overnight, and starts right up the next day. Any ideas? thx.
turbosubarubrat
When is the last time the fuel filters were changed? One is in the engine compartment and the other is by the fuel pump. Edited July 4, 2014 by turbosubarubrat

Found I could correct it by pouring cold water over the engine compartment temperature sensor mounted near the EGR valve, Actual problem was a vacuum leak upstream of the temp sensor. unibrook
I happened again today. We checked for spark....yes spark is there. Is there a fuel pump relay, if so where is it located? Problem seems to be worse under load...when car is warm.
jono
82 wagon, might have fuel pump up front? and only one fuel filter. Brumby BRATs had extra fuel filter at the rear. It could be a number of things, divide symptoms along fuel or spark. Points system or EI module in it now ? Points condensor can crap out, usually not this way though, modules can and have done similar with me twice now How long have you owned it and what have you done since in way of service (replacing consumables) and repair? Could it be crusty crap in coil tower, dizzy cap - coil can crap out similarly. Fuel lines themselves can crud out internally too and a good draining and blow through can help. Run some fuel cleaner first for a tank before replacing fuel filters for best effects.

naru
Fuel pump and/or Fuel Filter. Very rare for weak pumps/plugged filters to give a poor idle on a carbed car unless the carb was drained by a higher power demand first. Sounds like it might be flooding. Dismiss fuel supply problems by checking the fuel level in the carb sight glass when trouble strikes. Is it in the middle or not? Too high? Simple stuff. 2 fuel filters on this car. Sometimes the idle stop solenoid jobby on the carb will be wonky and prevent idle, but, not higher speed running.

It really depends on what state the cars from, whether it is 2wd or 4wd, whether it has cruise control or not, or what carb.
