MR_Loyale
I was told that the first gear in the TM70F 5MT transmission (FWD) is not synchronized. Is this true? I thought this transmission was the same basic one as that in the push button 4wd cars (TM75F I believe) and I can definitely downshift into first while moving slowly without grinding. Also, the Haynes manual states that the transmssion is "fully synchronized". I cannot find any definitive information regarding this so if anyone has that please speak up. Thanks. Ibreakstuff
Hrmm, my 87GL has a TM70F FWD 5MT transmission and 1st is definitely synchronized. I would be very surprised if there was anything different internally vs a phase 1 EJ FWD 5MT. With custom carrier bearings you should be able to fit an LSD ment for a AWD 5MT too. A friend did this in a p1 EJ FWD 5MT. Edited July 14, 2014 by Ibreakstuff
l75eya
Regardless of synchronized or not I've always found it ideal to double clutch and Rev match in to 1st.
Ibreakstuff
Regardless of synchronized or not I've always found it ideal to double clutch and Rev match in to 1st. I'm with you there, double clutched and matched.. you can stuff it into first at 25-30mph. I would venture to say the same exact closing speed as my wrx if done correctly.
