Crawlerdan
i found an all original ff1 wagon, its complete, kinda rough, was rear ended so tailgate is trash but it has a low mile 1300 in it, and a spare 1100 in the back with a spare trans, tons of other spare parts. the guy that has it now is 83 and the original owner! it has some rust here and there, but was a cali car until two years ago so the rust is very repairable. i considered dropping a full ej22 awd set up in it and having a fun rally wagon. but figured i would post here for those that may need parts/ want the whole car let me know what everyone thinks
moosens
That rare and you'd not try to restore it with a 1300? My first reaction. Probably came with the 1100 . Did the old guy say anything about the two engines? Yeah , post pics. I was the first person looking for one many years ago. Jerry was going to hook me up with one but he had to dump it quick and must have thought I would take too long. There's at least three here in CT all either running or can be. I'd still be extremely interested and we have had cars brought here from the left coast before. Send PM if you want. Talk soon.
Crawlerdan
no my first reaction was not restoration, sorry, i am not a body man, nor am i a purist. these are the exact reasons im informing my usmb brothers of the car the 1300 runs, well. was rebuilt before he was rear-ended, he said has about 20k miles the 1100 is the original numbers matching engine, he said it runs perfect as well, might need a valve. he said he has oem valves he has a set of custom wheels made for the car that allow him to install "buggy tire" he called em looked like a large high floatation sand tire. said he lived in so cal on the beach and would drive the car on the beach it will come with many parts, extra wheels, and spares. i offered him 600 for it and he said no. sounded like he is willing to sell, but wants a few more dollars, i am happy to be the middle man for you moosens. or any other usmb freind i will buy the car with your money and hold it on my farm until you are ready for transport. i wont charge, im glad to do it. if no one else is interested i may buy it just to say i own an ff1 and see what happens in time
Loyale 2.7 Turbo
The Subaru FF-1 is very Rare now, have you checked if it came with the rare Dual Carb engine / inboard Disc Brakes? ... Usually those came with inboard Drum Brakes on the Front. And to place a Bigger engine on it, such like the EJ22 is (in my very own opinion) a pretty Bad idea, not only for the extra weight, size, etc... because with time + money anything could be Built; no. The reason is that the whole front of the Subaru FF-1 is designed in a way that it self sustains everything and has a delicate balance, where the fenders are only covers that does not play a supportive roll on the Body; and the front Brakes are placed on the Transmission (inboard) not on the Wheels... To transform this would be the purest mechanical nightmare, and does not worth the effort; so I believe that these FF-1 worth more restored, for their historical value. ...he has a set of custom wheels made for the car that allow him to install "buggy tire" he called em... Do you have Photos of those "Custom Wheels"? Kind Regards
moosens
Exactly right! The ff-1 is a very unique vehicle up front. Built like a race car in regards to space. I'm at work and have to work a second gig today but yes please get in touch. I'm going to try to PM now but I'm on a phone. I doubt this one had the disks and twin carbs. I don't recall any being sold here set up so well. And I don't think Subaru established a supported race team here until the Star series of 72.
Crawlerdan
It does not have disc brakes or twin carburetors, the off-road wheels and tires are just standard wheels that he had somebody widen for him. If somebody is seriously interested in the car I will go get pictures
