cam1
I have a 1998 subaru impreza wrx sti 2.0L. Ive had it for a year and its an auto. The engine is showing lost of wear and is starting to cost a lot in maintenance.I want to put a newer manual wrx engine in but I'm not sure what model engines will fit and how much it will cost all up? Legacy777
Welcome to the USMB. In general if you get an engine from a similar model year car it should swap in ok. You could maybe go with a newer engine, swap on the intake manifold from your car and have everything work out ok, but I couldn't tell you off the top of my head which years would work. cam1
Do you know the overall cost if I was to get it done in a shop instead of doing it myself? Edited August 25, 2014 by cam1
Legacy777
That I really don't know, but assuming everything is plug & play and all the shop needs to do is remove the old engine and put the new one in I would imagine they could do it in a couple hours. I would estimate 8 hrs of labor at least for a shop to do it. If the shop's hourly rate is $100/hr then your labor costs would be $800. Maybe others can chime in on the shop costs.
