help with 93 loyale

Recommended Posts

I have no spark on my 93 loyale

Ok just to try and sum this up I know the timing belt is good, The distributor was good , ECU is good. the coil is good with 12 volts or more to the terminals.

okay this is what I've got though the ECU is throwing a trouble code number 13 which is the crank angle sensor if I'm not mistaken.

on a loyal where is the crank sensor?

its in the distributor if I'm not mistaken correct?

And can anyone tell me if there's a trick just to give the distributor power so I can get spark like a jumper wire somewhere or something like that? so if you need any more info please ask I'll be happy to give it if I left anything out thanks for reading this hope to get some good info

have you checked that the rotor set screw hasnt come loose?

Yeah I did and its Good in tight

you know I'm sure it's something that easy is what's causing my problem right now to have no spark

So if you have any more ideas please let me know

Crank angle sensor is part of the distributor from what I've read.

Is the distributor turning when you crank the engine ?  If not then check your timing belts.  Otherwise, try cleaning all contacts in the distributor and try clearing the codes and see if you can get a different or same reading.

Same readings ?  Try replacing distributor cap  and report results.

Sounds like a distributor ignition module problem...

Yes...

However, an electrical False Contact on the Fusible Links,

could cause same problem also.

... 2.7 Loyale wrote an article and posted it on this forum about how to test the ignition module with the distributor out of the car, on a bench...

Here is said Writeup, with Photos:

It is about Carbureted EA82's Distributor; but maybe it could be Helpful.

Kind Regards.

just to let you know I the fusible links are good

So can you tell me if I can run the ignition module test

the same way with the 93 loyals distributor

it's a four wire distributor

As on the carbureted model has only two

thank you I am getting good info so please

keep the info coming I know one of you will hit it

because I know this one's got to be an easy solution

has anyone ever tried to just give the distributor power

so you can get spark that way kind of like you would in an HEI distributor in a Chevrolet

hey bud, i know im far away but ive got a disty i can give ya.

I really appreciate that but I don't think its the distributor

As it was working just fine in another car.

See what I'm going through right now Is that pulled the motor

Out of a running loyal And for some stupid reason the car lost spark

I don't know if its a relay or if its electrical Or what Its got me

frustrated stumped and all in between If you know what I mean.

Do you think if I just gave the distributor 12 volt power I can make it spark?

I've also replace the coil from a running car I just don't understand why

code 13 the crank angle angle sensor is coming up I'm thinking my next step

might be just to change the engine harness What do you think?

it'll show 13 because the engine isn't running.

OK

If the Motor came from a Different Year / Model of Loyale,

Maybe you forgot to swap the ECU and Wire Harness along it?

...thank you ...

You're Welcome.

Kind Regards.

gls and loyales have different maf sensors if that helps....cracked disty cap maybe???

What is maf?

and you know this is weird

both cars are a 93 loyal

One is automatic the other had a5 speed

I pulled the running motor out of the five speed car

and put it into the automatic car.

I just don't understand why I am having such difficult getting spark

this car is making me feel real dumb right now

Mass Air Flow Sensor.

I bet that the different wiring between Automatic & Manual cars, has something to do with your "No Spark" issue, in example, Automatics usually have a Sensor for the Position of the Shifter, so if it is not in Park (Nor in Neutral in some Cars)it will not let it Start... maybe there is a missing "Sensor" or unplugged Wiring, and some Loyales has the same Plug with the Same Colour and same Quantity of Wires, that could be cross-plugged each other in the wrong way...

Kind Regards.

you know you're onto something there that's got me thinking thank you

but the craziest thing is in the 5 speed car I had to use the automatic ECU to get the 5 speed car to Run

So do you think the neutral safety switch

could still have something to do with it even though the car turns over ?

Well, I am not sure, because I can not see your car "in Person" and I'm trying to imagine if there is a difference in the Wiring between the Manual & the Automatic, for the Engine Management... as I've seen very Few Automatic Loyales here, and all of those came from USA like the one you can see here: (Scroll Down)

So I don't have experience with Automatic Loyales.

I kindly suggest you to check the Wirings and be Sure if there are not mismatched ones plugged, nor a safety switch that might need to be bypassed.

Kind Regards.

Well I change the engine harness Along with the Throttle body From the original engine out of the car Check the mass air flow sensor it checks out good The coil has good power to both sides of the terminal The only thing I have not check now is the Wires going from the distributor to the ECU So I guess that's going to be my next task From what I can tell there is no difference between automatic and the 5 speed cars for the engine management system

there isnt, its all in the auto car's tcu. ive swapped em. hmmmm real head scratcher here. ill sleep on it and see what i come up with.

but first:stupid questions.

are all of the intake boots tight?

did you get incorrect cap rotor form the parts store by mistake? it happens from time to time (rotors hitting caps etc)

what do the plugs look like? just wet and not crushed or anything?

sorry, I know you know this stuff.....but its the little dumb stuff that gets us sometimes

Well I finally figured out why my 93 loyal had no spark.

Back when my car was actually a parts car.

I had to cut the plug at the distributor. For another car.

So when I put A new engine back into this car

I just hard wired the distributor wires to the harness

Not realizing that the green wire And the white wire Were backwards

The best way I can describe it to you is

That the distributor has 4 wires

A green wire a black wire a white wire and a red wire

And the black wire went with the black wire And the red wire went with the red wire

and the green wire went with the white wire and the white wire went with the green wire

it's always got to be the most dumbest thing so thanks to you all

that put your two cents worth of help so tell my next stupid problem we shall see you later

Sounds like you got either an 87 disty or an 87 ECU

87 is the on;y year where the pins in the ECU for Ref. volts and Signal volts. are reversed compared to all later FI ECU's

Swapping the white and green wires at the disty is the simple way to correct the problem.

no none of its out of an 87 the engine and cars were both 93 and 94 loyal

it was just the plug at the distributor I had cut it off when it was a parked car

I cut both ends of the plug one at the distributor harness and at the engine harness

And now I have made the parts car is running driving car

the problem was when I hardwired the distributor back into the harness

I just matched the colors and solder them together

not knowing at the factory plug the white and green wires are crossed from one another

and now the car is running and driving and will be on Craigslist within a week for sale

man when trying to figure out a Subaru's sometimes there never is a stupid question

I appreciated all the brain thinking you help me do I appreciate it from all of you that help me

because it was the dumbest thing that was stopping the car from getting spark unbelievable

but it is what it is and I got through it with you guys thank you
