82GLWag
So I swooped up this brat about a week ago. Ea71, came with a weber 32/36, electronic disty, and an red MSD box. All or this wasn't hooked up when I got it. So I've wired up the fuel pump and MSD coil to a toggle switch under the dash. Seems to work good after I replaced the Weber carb (with the pretty much brand new one I had). Had it running, but definitely off time. So I did my best to get it 10 btdc and roted the disty one tooth clockwise. Seems to run a little better. Starts up and idles smooth. But it still just has no power!! I know 1600 will never produce much.. But I feel I should have some sort of Benefits in having the weber carb, de smogged and the multiple spark ignition!!?? So my question is, How would this set up be working properly? Tips and or tricks?? I WILL POST PICS LATER TODAY !! thanks for any help!
82GLWag
Ohh ya and today I got a timing light to use.. But I didn't see any marks on the crank pulley.. Do I have to make a new mark? When? Where?
lvsarge
Timing marks are in the window for the flywheel on the bellhousing assembly. My 1600 is pretty gutless too, and struggles above 65mph. But I had a cylinder misfiring since I've owned it. Haven't got to drive it yet since I've fixed that problem (I hope).

ferox
You might try reinstalling your disty again now that you know where to look for the timing marks. Start your timing at 8 degrees BTDC and advance up to a max of 10 after you have it dialed in for sure. Change the fuel filter if you haven't already. There are lots of other possibilities, but those are some usual suspects.
82GLWag
i don't have a manual. I'm not 100% sure on the procedure. Anyone know of a Thread on the forum with info for me? I've searched multiple ways and times. thanks!
lvsarge
IIRC--- Theres a notch and a hole that line up on the distributor. With the motor at TDC, line the dist up with those two points and stab it in. Hook up the timing light to Cyl 1, start the car and enjoy the disco light on the flywheel, rotate the distributor as needed. Carb may need adjusting. That's the jist of it, anyway. 82GLWag
What are the points that line up on the disty that you mention??
lvsarge
I thought there was a notch on the body and on the bottom of the distributor shaft. I can't recall, to be honest. I'll be going through my Haynes manual tomorrow reassembling my car so I'll look in there and see if I can get the verbatim instructions for you. 82GLWag
Had my alternator die on me last night.. slapped on the alt from my EA81. Seems to be running a little better now too. Is there anything I should be weary of when running the msd and fuel pump off of 1 switch hard wired to the battery?
